Once again I totally forgot I was doing a meme. Oops. Anyway, I am spending the weekend trying to avoid reports, pictures and video from Take That. Currently I'm watching Serenity and have just finished tidying under my desk. I miss the days when I could quote all of Serenity along with the movie. But it's like watching it with fresh eyes, which is good, it's been too long!

After spending the first five months of the year as a loner, with the exception of football days and the two times I've seen some of my friends, I have an insane two months lined up and I can't wait! Take That with Mam tomorrow, Insurgence with Hilary on Friday, my friends are coming to visit the Ghost Creeper for my birthday the weekend after, then Glee Live, T3, LFCC for Karen Gillan, San Diego, and possibly G1. All before the end of July! Excited does not cover it. And then the football season will start again! Woo!

So, back to the meme.

Day 23 → A song that you hear often on the radio
I hear a lot of songs often on the radio due to listening to Radio 2 all day every day at work. Still, it's better than when we used to listed to The Pulse and it was practically four songs on repeat the whole day. Recently they've played Alice Gold's Runaway Love a lot, which reminds me of Ryan, and Patrick Wolf a lot too which reminds me of Melissa. And then lots of Take That which I just generally enjoy.

We had relatives over today so I had to get up - boo! But we saw The King's Speech yesterday and I really enjoyed that. Thanks to seeing that and Black Swan on Thursday, I've now seen half of the Best Picture nominees and should be up to 7 by the time the ceremony is on - and this year we have Sky Movies for the first time, and I'm off on the Monday, so I can watch the whole thing! Woo! Also, a hot guy who was the double of Andrew Garfield served us at the Ben & Jerry's stand so I may have to go back to the Vue, even though we prefer the City Screen as it's both cheaper and closer. Oh well!

Dad is back at work, though he says he's still not really better. He hopes to come to the match on Tuesday as long as I can drive, and has promised to drive to the next two or three to make up for it. Our game vs Spurs on Feb 12th has been moved to a 5.30 kick off for ESPN which has angered a lot of people - both SAFC fans and Spurs fans - because it's only 15 days notice and a lot of people have already made travel plans, which is a fair complaint I think! Plus a lot of people seem to have tickets to see Peter Kay at the Arena that night so they're all going to be late now!

Day 21 → A recipe

I have a lot of favourites. My absolute favourite is the chocolate melting cake from the Carnival cruise that Shirley and I went on - about two years on, they sent me an advert and it had the recipe in it! I made it for Karen and Max once, but it's been a while. I should dig the recipe out, but until I find it, my second favourite will have to do!

(I still think this is a weird question btw).

Mam got me a Mexican cook book for my birthday last year and I'm still cooking my way through it, but this one has gone well for me when I tried it!

Chorizo & Potato Quesdillas:
(serves 4)

350g potatoes
1/2 onion, finely chopped
1 clove of garlic, chopped
200g chorizo, chopped
4 large flour or corn tortillas
400g cheese, grated

1. Cut the potatoes into chunks and fry until tender. Leave to cool a little and then dice them into 1cm blocks. Fry the onion until soft, add the garlic and cook for a further 3 minutes. Mix in the chorizo and potato, turn the heat up and fry for another 4 minutes. Season.

2. Spread a quarter of the mixture on one half of a tortilla and sprinkle with a fistful of cheese

3. Fold the tortilla over, brush it with oil and place in a hot dry frying pan or griddle, cook til golden and crisp. Cut into wedges and serve!

Easy but tasty!

Watched the Golden Globes. Didn't have much of an opinion in most categories but was pleased or indifferent in the majority, except for Chris Colfer winning. I had actually said to Mam "Anybody but Chris Colfer should win this one" right before they announced it, so eh.

So I went to bed at 4am after it was over, and woke up around 11 and watched some of This Morning in bed. Then there was a big revelation about Darren Bent handing in a transfer request so I had to get up, and I've been on the sofa watching Sky Sports News ever since.

Day 20 → 3 personality quirks about you

1. I don't like wearing socks without shoes. It's either both or neither for me.
2. I like to cut cheese neatly. When Mam scrapes chunks off to melt on top of meals, it makes the cheese a weird shape! I like it to stay in a block so I can cut straight down from top to bottom with it flat on the table!
3. I refuse to meet up with people inside places. I have a fear of people being able to see me when I can't see them so if possible I always arrive first so I can get a good vantage point, and if we're meeting at a restaurant or shop and I'm arriving last then somebody has to come out to get me. I will not go in and look. Meeting at a landmark and going to the place is always my preference over meeting at the place we're actually going to, otherwise I get all jittery. This goes to the point where if I'm meeting somebody on a bus that they're already on, I'll get them to text me their exact location on the bus so that I can find them when I get on it.

Went to the match today - the less said about our performance the better but we scraped a not-really-deserved point and I'll leave it at that! Went to the pub for a few hours after - much easier when Dad's not there because I can stay as long as I like! He always wants to get home - he's an old man now ;)

He didn't make it in the end, he sold a ticket to a friend of my cousin who we'd never met, and just sent me a text saying to expect a lad who "looks like an egg" as my uncle had told me that was the lad's nickname. He looked NOTHING like an egg! Tall and fairly thin with thick dark hair! Random.

I'm off work tomorrow so tonight I'm going to eat Maltesers and take advantage of having Sky Movies now, and stay up to watch the Golden Globes.

I had a message on Facebook from a girl I know from the York office at work - she's leaving. :( I'm very sad, because Aimee's brilliant at her job and really fun to talk to, but she says they're expected to make 50 sales calls a day now and it's turned into so much like a call centre that she can't handle it. :( But despite not really knowing her properly as a friend, just through work, she sent me a message to tell me because she wants to stay in touch and meet up for coffee after she leaves, which is so nice! I'll miss her though. I hope the other people who are actually good at their jobs don't follow her out the door.

Day 19 → A talent of yours
Hmmm. My talents are weird and varied, and all almost entirely useless. I can turn my feet into a fist and walk on them. I can bend my fingers all the way backwards. I can fall asleep on public transport and wake up exactly where I need to. I can travel from Spain to Yorkshire without going to the toilet. I know there are more weird talents but I can't think what right now!

I general I am, as Jaina put it, a total weirdy. And proud!

I was doing so well posting every day, and then missed one day and gave up after that! Fail. I think it's mostly to do with the fact I wanted to post the next question in the 30 days meme, and couldn't think of an answer. I still can't, but I shall waffle about it anyway!

Day 18 → Something that you miss
This is really hard. There are a lot of PEOPLE that I miss, but not a lot of things. I miss getting a nap on the bus on the way to work, but I have replaced that with a nap in the car park when I get to work, so that doesn't really count any more. I miss living in Sunderland for a lot of reasons, but there are also a lot of reasons I'm not so bothered. I think very soon I'm going to miss having Friday-Monday off once a month because of our day off rota - and I'm already starting to resent Jill for it. I miss our living room smelling of Christmas when you walk into it now that the tree is gone. I miss petrol costing under £1 a litre.

I think that's enough for that!

I am very much enjoying my 50p off at Starbucks vouchers. Even though the cream is still the crappy new stuff that melts far too fast. I was really super tired this morning for no reason at all, so I think it'll have to be an early night tonight.

I went to take my Dad's Christmas presents to his house last Thursday - I saw him on Tuesday but at the match, and I wanted to see him open his presents so I kept them til I had time to drop in with them. I got there and Julie let me in, which is weird in itself, as Dad always answers the door. It turns out he'd been off work ill - she got him to come downstairs but he was really weird and dizzy the whole time. He opened his things and seemed pleased with them but then I left him to recover some more. I texted him on Friday to see if he was feeling better and he said he hadn't been able to get a doctors appointment but that he was still dizzy, though a bit better - he spoke to a doctor on the phone who diagnosed him with acute onset vertigo. I sent him a text today and he's still off work, no better, with a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Hopefully she'll be able to sort him out because he's not generally a sickly person and hates sitting around doing nothing - plus we play Newcastle a week on Sunday and he can't miss that! ;)

Day 17 → Your favourite holiday
I am going to choose to answer this as a holiday I went on, rather than a public holiday, because I don't have such a thing as a favourite one of those, and since I made this meme up, I can answer it however I want!

This is another really tough one because I've had some amazing holidays over the last few years - Barcelona/Salou, Portugal, LA/San Diego/San Francisco with Quinn last year, but I think I'll have to go with LA/San Diego 2009 with Jaina, Hilary, Ryan, Karen and Max. Purely because there were so many of us, it was a long trip and we went so far away - all of those things combined make it particularly memorable, and then there are just so many memories from the whole time. The condo we rented is top of the list of why it was awesome though - I wish I could win the lottery so I could buy that condo from the woman. I totally would. I'd pay anything. I met Paul Gross - nine year old me died happy that day. The whole trip was just absolutely brilliant. So it wins here!

Another quiet day today - which has seen the beginning of 2011 being the year of nostalgia. I went in the bath with a book I haven't read for years and although I got out of the bath after an hour or so I have done nothing but continue to read it since then. It was Jennings Goes To School and I have been crying with laughter at it (and reading bits of it out to mam!) for hours. Brilliant book. So I'm going to make a list, I think. Of books and TV series or films I rewatch or reread.

Nostalgia for 2011 )

I'm also doing an icon rotation, because too many of my icons have gone unused over the last year or so.

Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly)
This is tough, because music doesn't tend to make me emotional. The only thing I can think of is that when I was driving up to Karen's the day we went to see Take That, singing along with Never Forget really loud in my car made me get all teary. I'm not sure why and it's never done it since! Not even later that night at the actual concert, ha! I think it was with excitement mostly. Ah, memories. That was the first time I drove my car anywhere other than to York, I'd only had it a couple of weeks and I ventured to Karen's house - exciting times!

The only other example I can give would be this one, which now makes me cry with laughter, and which (spoiler alert) I'm going to link to in every post I can get away with for the foreseeable future:

I had the day off today, so I went into the York office to say hi to people and have a Christmas Starbucks with Michelle, before finishing my shopping. While I was talking to Aimee and Gemma, Sacha came over. Sacha is, I think, foreign, though I'm not exactly sure where she's from, she just has an accent. I was talking about Jill, who I work with, and Aimee shouted "Simon! Rumour has it you've been knocking Jill off!"

Simon thought this was hilarious, while poor Sacha just didn't know what the phrase meant! Simon tried to pretend Jill walks a tightrope and he pokes her with sticks.

I then went to talk to Tom about the Vampire Diaries and Simon and Terry about Take That and Glee.

I miss that office so much.

Day 14 → Favorite love story in a movie
Sam and Large from Garden State. I love this movie, I haven't watched it in far too long. The airport stuff with Sam is the only movie that has ever made me cry on repeat viewings. I cry every time. (Serenity made me cry multiple times, but in different places each time so it doesn't count)

It's my favourite of Natalie Portman's roles, too.

I think I need to go and watch it again right now.

This is really turning more into "30 Weeks of" instead of "30 Days of"!

Day 13 → Your siblings

Two half-siblings - Thomas (10) and Emily (5). Their birthdays are at the end of January so they're almost 11 and 6. They are both super cute and since I only see them once every few months (they live in Liverpool with their mum, not with my Dad and his new wife) they're always happy to see me and never get sick of me, which means lots of hugs, especially from Emily! Thomas is big into computer games, though I am still better than him at Mario Kart, but he's really bad at explaining things on games he's played before and I haven't. Emily is a giggler.

I took this almost two years ago when we went to see the Doctor Who exhibition in Liverpool, and I don't have any more recent pictures of them which is just wrong.

Day 12 → Your favorite birthday

I remember having various birthday parties when I was little - strawberries and ice cream in our garden, bowling with my friends, playing netball in my garden where Dad had to be one of the nets because we only had one proper post, having a group of friends over for my 18th where Selina, Quinn and I watched the Buffy finale on my computer (in five parts, in Real Player format!) and Hils, Jen and Bry watched a programme about Prince William upstairs.

But I think my favourite birthdays have been the ones that were on or around cons. In 2004 I had an awesome birthday because it was at Hyperion - I had just met Shirley for the first time, I met the twins for the first time and a bunch of other people from "The Internet" were all there, like Christie and And and Sky. Andy Hallett wished me happy birthday and Clare Kramer remembered from the Friday night to the Saturday morning that I was 19.

This year Julia Ling and Adam Baldwin sang me happy birthday, and Julia gave me a birthday hug and a kiss on the cheek in my photo session. (The biggest disappointment that day was Woodward not showing up to give me my promised hug, but Tim and Kat did make it so that was even better. Plus we watched football and ate pizza, and I drank cider, and people got to see me how I really am!)

A couple of years ago I spent the day in London with Mam and then the evening at Jaina's with the gang, including Alison who arrived at Jaina's just to see me and then left at 5am to get to work.

And last year we went to Flamingo Land for my-birthday-slash-Mel's-hen-do, the actual trip was the day after my birthday but everybody arrived on the night and I loved having them all there.

So in conclusion, I refuse to pick a favourite birthday but my current friends have given me the best birthdays of my life. And though I'm fully expecting Glee Con not to go ahead next year (and that would be good as I could transfer the ticket money to T3), the biggest reason for Sadface about that would be not having a con on my birthday.

Now I just need it to stop before Monday or I might actually have to get dressed on Sunday and make an attempt at clearing the snow off my car and then braving the terrifying drive to work. I haven't gotten dressed since Wednesday night so that would be a major disappointment.
