Went to the match today - the less said about our performance the better but we scraped a not-really-deserved point and I'll leave it at that! Went to the pub for a few hours after - much easier when Dad's not there because I can stay as long as I like! He always wants to get home - he's an old man now ;)

He didn't make it in the end, he sold a ticket to a friend of my cousin who we'd never met, and just sent me a text saying to expect a lad who "looks like an egg" as my uncle had told me that was the lad's nickname. He looked NOTHING like an egg! Tall and fairly thin with thick dark hair! Random.

I'm off work tomorrow so tonight I'm going to eat Maltesers and take advantage of having Sky Movies now, and stay up to watch the Golden Globes.

I had a message on Facebook from a girl I know from the York office at work - she's leaving. :( I'm very sad, because Aimee's brilliant at her job and really fun to talk to, but she says they're expected to make 50 sales calls a day now and it's turned into so much like a call centre that she can't handle it. :( But despite not really knowing her properly as a friend, just through work, she sent me a message to tell me because she wants to stay in touch and meet up for coffee after she leaves, which is so nice! I'll miss her though. I hope the other people who are actually good at their jobs don't follow her out the door.

Day 19 → A talent of yours
Hmmm. My talents are weird and varied, and all almost entirely useless. I can turn my feet into a fist and walk on them. I can bend my fingers all the way backwards. I can fall asleep on public transport and wake up exactly where I need to. I can travel from Spain to Yorkshire without going to the toilet. I know there are more weird talents but I can't think what right now!

I general I am, as Jaina put it, a total weirdy. And proud!

I am not looking forward to tomorrow and Thursday. Busy busy busy. Bank holidays are awesome but so much has to be done by Thursday so that none of us need to come in on Friday or Monday. Over the next 2 days, between four people we have to plan and send 15 daily papers, and 17 weekly titles. This is all of Wednesday and Thursday's usual work, plus Friday and Monday and some prep for Tuesday.

Even at Christmas it wasn't this bad! Most of the weekly titles (the free ones anyway) took a Christmas break - not over Easter they don't! I expect a late finish tomorrow and Thursday, and maybe an early start on Thursday too since there shouldn't be too much traffic while the schools are off.

I think I need to go to bed right now to prepare.

In other news, I watched seven episodes of Parks & Recreation today, I'm now 1/3 of the way through S2 and enjoying it. It's making me giggle quite regularly! I also watched Castle, which I absolutely adore, and I'm going to watch Chuck shortly.

I even managed to fit watching an episode of California Dreams and the most recent live Delta DVD into my busy schedule today. Brian McFadden is an really good singer, and also very funny! They're so cute together.

I had every intention of posting last night, but then I got distracted by the Golden Globes. The best thing about the whole night was Glee's win, everything else was fairly "eh" - Ricky Gervais as a host, though, was plain embarrassing. I know I would say that, because I told like him, but it was cringeworthy most of the time.

Neil and David are still the cutest couple ever.

I love Dancing on Ice. The pro skaters are just so talented, I could really do without the "celebs" and just watch Fred and Melanie skate week after week.

Back to work tomorrow after my "long weekend". I was meant to be going to see Karen & Max, but a combination of my cold and the weather meant it wasn't the best idea, so we've rescheduled for two weeks' time instead. The long weekends are great, having Friday/Monday off is so worth it, but on the week when I have Monday off I'm always so shattered by Friday. I might have to stop somewhere on the way down to Jaina's and have a bit of a nap. I'll certainly be Starbucksing up during the afternoon, anyway!

Tomorrow's aim is to find a Next in Bradford. Dad says that Thomas is saving up for a laptop so he just wants money for his birthday, and for Emily (who is 5) Jan is going to take her on a special pampery shopping day, so a Next voucher would be great. So there's that. I've looked it up on the map, just need to try to find it! I think it's near a Home Bargains shop Syleene is always talking about.

Time for another film post in a minute, I think. Just to keep the list up to date.

I found a wire to connect my laptop to the TV. I knew we had one, and 3 years after I first thought about it, I found the box! So the only thing missing is an audio connection, but we can put up with that coming out of the laptop for now. It gets an official test run tonight!

I decided that working from York was like a school trip - nobody cared what I wore, I got to chat to all my friends all day, and even though I had to do work, it was none of the hard stuff.

However tomorrow there's very little I can do from there so I hope I'll be able to get to Bradford. I don't really want to ring and say I can't get there again, I've not been to Bradford since Monday. I want to get in if I can. Plus I'm sick of paying for bus fare!

Also, despite not even using my car since very briefly on Tuesday morning, I have managed to lose my car key. I think it's on the bus. I do have a spare but it's not remote for the central locking. Annoyingly, it would still be safely in my bag except as I was getting off the bus I put it in my pocket, ready to go to the car when I got home and clean the car off so I had less to do in the morning.

All in all a bit of a fail!

Also I have a sore throat. This (snow, and general fail) had better all sort itself out before next weekend. I want to see Karen and Max!

Today I made an effort and was a good girl. Instead of just staying in bed like I did yesterday, I went back to bed for an hour after realising the roads were even worse than yesterday. Then phoned Mariska, and offered to get the bus into York. I can do half of my work from there (the least stressful part, hooray!) and I got to see a load of my friends. Even got to have lunch with Michelle.

Tomorrow is meant to be my day off, but I've offered to go in since I didn't make it at all yesterday. I've just read on the website of a local school that the road I have to use to get to the A64 and then the motorways is considered impassable for buses and highly dangerous for cars. So I won't be doing that, but assuming the buses are running the other way, I'll probably go into York again. Emma said not to bust a gut getting there early so I'll probably do the same as today - leave my alarm set for the normal time, and then lie in bed watching the news til 9ish before going for a bus.

I got to have a nap on the bus home tonight, too. I've so missed that.

I am highly doubtful that the match will go ahead on Saturday - apparently the pitch is fine, but they're "monitoring the situation" when it comes to the area around the ground. Considering they were going to call it off on Saturday if it was still snowing at 2.30, and even then it wasn't settling, I am guessing there'll be a postponment announced by Friday night so that people don't travel.

Which is a-okay with me. I want to stay in bed.

Snow! Useful snow! For the first time ever I'm having a snow day. I didn't get a single day off school (and even now, when almost every other school in the area is shut, I've checked the website and good old All Saints is still open!) and whenever anybody else has had days off work I've still ended up getting there. But now I work in Bradford, and it's harder and more treacherous!

I made it in on Christmas Eve, which was unexpected, but we only had 3 hours of work to do and if I didn't get there the two people left in (out of a usual six - Emma was snowed in, and Louise and Syleene had the day booked off) would have been screwed. So I just about managed it, but Mariska was surprised I did.

This morning I set off, got to the top of the road where I have to stop and let people out on a slight hill, discovered it was so icy I couldn't stop. I was terrified! Luckily nothing was coming and I managed to get out into the road and do 30mph behind a bus about a mile up the road, which was the next place I could turn around. And I did, and I came home. If I could have got to the motorway I'd have been fine but that particular road was just hell.

I called Mariska and she said she wasn't surprised to hear I was still at home, not to worry about it and she'd hopefully see me tomorrow. I gave her my mobile number in case anybody needed to find out where I'd left any work.

It's still snowing now and my car is covered again. In fact, I think the snow is heavier than it was this morning so I would have spent the whole day unsure if I'd even be able to get home!

So my plan is to stay in bed a bit longer (I've put the heating on and got a hot water bottle) and maybe watch another film or two, then wash the dishes. I'm finding this all quite exciting even though it's essentially just a day off. I don't know if I'll make it in tomorrow, and Thursday is supposed to be my day off anyway - I might have to work it though, as a swap for today. Which would be a bit pants considering that would make it less of a snow day and just rearranged day I was already entitled to.

Fingers crossed they'll still let me have the day off, anyway!

Things I forgot:

1. Going to see GDL in Cinderella again next Wednesday. If he's going to quit doing cons after FedCon and Australia, I need to get his sig on that Torchwood box set!

2. [livejournal.com profile] emailitin and I are about ready to book our flights to LA/San Diego/San Francisco! The prices are decent at the moment so we're going to just go for it!

3. Flights to Portugal for May are booked, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] angelite's credit card.

4. I forgot to say that at Jaina's, we also spent 11 minutes watching Sky One's Christmas Log Fire, which surprisingly actually did make me feel rather cosy!

5. The snow has had remarkably little effect on me so far, although I brought a duvet and sleeping bag back into the house after taking them to Jaina's - the sleeping bag and pillow are now back in the car just in case, after hearing the tales of Hilary spending the night in her office and it taking Melissa's mum 8 hours to get home.

6. Work is busy busy busy the next couple of days. Getting everything done before Christmas is a mammoth task, we've got about 14 daily papers to sort out before we go home tomorrow plus some weekly titles too, we need to get them ready so that all we need to do on Thursday is send the pages, not have to track everybody down too.

I've made a rather detailed list for my jobs for tomorrow. I'm still not convinced I remembered to do everything I was meant to do today. Hopefully I did, otherwise Amanda will have received a late night phone call from the Northern Echo offices...

7. I have a hot water bottle so I am going to cosy up in bed now.

Work is very quiet at the moment. I suspect as soon as we get a rush of deadlines in five minutes time, the afternoon will woosh away from me, but that'll be good because at the moment I'm bored!

Went to [livejournal.com profile] jainaj's at the weekend - despite the weather warnings from the official forecast/news/my friends and family, the journey was completely uneventful. Once I'd cleared the snow off my car and set away I didn't see any more until I stopped at Watford Gap for a leg stretch. I made it to Jaina's around 7.30, found parking in her drive the hardest bit (I parked too close to her car because due to the snow I couldn't tell where there were steps and stuff and was over-cautious - I had her hold the passenger door open and I climbed out there, but then went back once I saw how much room I'd left myself and re-manouvered) and watched her make muffins. And licked the bowl.

We watched Bones and Lie to Me, and randomly Coyote Ugly, while eating pizza and some of the aforementioned muffins. Then eventually we went to bed, Jaina set her alarm for 8 and I ignored it while she got breakfast. I forced myself to awake and speak around 8.30, but we stayed in bed talking nonsense, til Jaina said "I keep hearing car door slamming and thinking they're Tim." I said "It probably is!" but didn't really mean it. Then the door bell rang. It was indeed [livejournal.com profile] jossno1fan! At ten to 9! But we were already awake and he'd brought Christmas cards and biscuits so all was well.

[livejournal.com profile] fray101 and [livejournal.com profile] mrbuttmonkey arrived some time after that, and we set off on our treacherous walk/slide to the station to get the train in to London.

We went to La Tasca and ate good food and Santa Sangria (despite me not being a huge fan of either Sangria or Cranberries, it was yumtastic!) though we probably should have ordered more in hindsight. But the service was slow and we were going to be late to meet [livejournal.com profile] angelite and [livejournal.com profile] generalzog so we hurried ourselves along to the theatre.

Breakfast at Tiffanys was excellent, despite the seats that were more uncomfortable than the time I went to watch us play Burnley, and the annoying girls behind who I nearly punched. But in the interval a nice usher invited us to sit in the more comfortable bit (I think he could tell we were all in pain).

After the play James Dreyfuss walked past us, we said goodbye to Mel and Mark, and went to Starbucks. Where four of the five of us were unable to order the drink we wanted because they had none. Fail.

Then it was back to Jaina's, where it turned into a pyjama party as most of us were pyjama-ed up by 7.30. Booze, chocolate, muffins, crisps, biscuits and more were consumed. We made sort of brain haemorrhages out of green Mickey Finn and Baileys, and watched Prom Night and The Midnight Meat Train, two of the worst films I've ever seen.

On Sunday morning Ryan and Hilary departed, and Tim and I stayed chatting to Jaina until we'd outstayed our welcome, so dug our cars out and headed off around lunchtime. I got home about 5 after a slow journey and a stop for a nap at Watford Gap.

Yesterday I met some of the girls from the York office for lunch as it was my day off, which was lovely, and went in to chat to everybody after that. Did the last main bits of Xmas shopping, now I just need to find a few little extra bits to put in Mam's stocking. Going to drop Thomas & Emily's presents off tomorrow night and then on Christmas Eve we're going to the neighbours' for drinks.

Boxing day should be good as Dad has paid for me, him and Julie to go in the posh exec box at the match, 4 course meal and loads of free stuff as well as seats just behind Niall Quinn, woop!
